I’m facing a week of re-setting the house after a week or so of letting go of chores. Sunhats, backpacks, shoes, toys and dirty clothes line my entryway. Food needs to be restocked in the empty refrigerator. Clothes to run through the washer and dryer. Junk mail and to-do piles need eliminating.

There is no “easy” button like in the office supply store commercial. I have no super powered nose to twitch like Samantha in Bewitched. None-the-less the house needs to be reset.

Today’s Photo of the Day is of a prairie plant. This simple and sturdy plant reminded me of what-else? The Little House on the Prairie books. When life had a rhythm that is no longer found in most homes.

I like thinking about ‘olden’ times when housework was really work. I wonder if I would cut it? I would do fine I suppose. I would rise to the challenge. I like to think I would be more like Ma and less like Mrs. Olson.

So, why does it seem hard to unload the dishwasher, put away clothes that have been basically washed and dried for me and keep my car, that takes me anywhere I want to go without hitching up horses, free from clutter?

Even if I won a year’s worth of an “easy” button would that make me happy? I like using my hands to serve my family. Maybe it isn’t so hard after all.

Things won are done; joy’s soul belongs in the doing! William Shakespeare
