Bird Bath from Kris' Garden
Hello. I have been quiet lately. I have been trying to soak in every last drop of summer before its gone. I grieve the end of each glorious season for one day and one day only.
The particular day I say goodbye to summer is the day the Minnesota State Fair starts. That was yesterday. The fair signals the countdown to kids in school, crisp jeans in our closets and an extra layer on our beds at night.
There will be hot days left to be sure but the essence of wearing swimming suits, sleeping-in and eating outdoors is on the downward slope out of the picture. Saying, “I’ll see you next year” to summer seems like a painful goodbye when really its just a temporary parting.
I don’t like to cling to summer long. I welcome fall and its beautiful colors.
Ryan’s favorite lovey, Baby, took a ride on a pirate ship with his custom made newspaper hat. We all had newspaper hats. Even Molly had one though she didn’t leave it on her head for very long.
Using paper from the recycling bin for a project was a fun and easy way to teach the idea of reusing materials!

Somedays I feel like this flower looks. Plain like a daisy yet funky like a, like a…like whatever that colorful part of the flower is called.
My Photo a Day post is an unearthed pic from an evening of summer play in the front of the house. Maybe in July?
I took a photo of knitting needles and yarn on my kitchen table for today’s post. I just learned how to cast on today! I am always running into the cutest things all over Etsy and other sweet little blogs. I just wanted to see what all the fun is about! I hope to make something knitty-like over the long Minnesota winter months.
During photo processing today I ran across a photo series of the kids that I haven’t used yet for anything. My mind was held captive by the summer night vibe that oozes from this photo. I delight in the image’s essence of the times. Fleeting moments of the wonder years. No, not the TV show. The preschooler times that are slipping like sand.
I cherish the moments that I am given here and Earth. My eyes are fixed on eternity. It is fun living out God’s kingdom with my boy, girl and husband in tow.

Ryan and Molly are sitting on a rock that is situated at the end of our townhome neighborhood’s property. This small boulder has become a highlight of our evening walking route.
Little do they know that the rest of the neighborhood calls it Poop Rock because all of the dogs in the area gravitate to it for their daily constitutionals.
My kids are putting themselves through spy training or at very least self-awareness training.
As a baby and toddler Ry slept with one or both of his eyes slightly open (which is a little weird to see mind you). I always joked that he’d grow up to be a lookout in a cowboy bandit gang. Well, his sleeping quirk added with a love for guns, beards and the expression eehh-haw all led to my believe I guess.
Bottom line: He is very light concise and has to sleep in the dark. (Thanks Phil for our room-darkening shade!).
Molly has super sonic hearing. She sleeps with her ears on full alert. Since she has quirky hearing we have never been able to sneak into her room to watch her sleep and give her one last sweet tuck-in before we head to bed ourselves. I don’t even think I have ever seen her sleeping except for in the car seat. She will stir in her crib if you even so-much-as think about her in your head.
Good defense reflex for her. Bad bonding deal for us.
Spies? Agents? Soliders? Maybe. But for now it is so nice to know they are under my roof recharging their little bodies for the next day.
All too soon I know we will be waiting up for them to come home in time for curfew and praying they stay in their rooms all night long, alone. Till then I dream of their futures and pray for their childhood quirks to turn into grown-up character traits like a heart for justice and a spirit of discernment.
